Welcome to Meades Mini Moos

Dedicated to raising quality miniature cattle.

Our future

We are a small farm located in Pamplin, VA. Yes, it is on the map! We are located on the outskirts of Farmville, VA. We are beginning our journey of raising Micro to Miniature Scottish Highland cows. We hope to also incorporate some Highpark cows in the future, because those cows have such beautiful markings and personalities. We will be working to improve the genetics, docile dispositions and to through artificial insemination continue to improve the genetics and reduce the size of our calves.

We are currently making plans to make the temporary pen into the visiting area for "Fluffy Cow Therapy". We are hoping to have this ready by June/July 2025. Visitors will be able to visit the calves in the pen and then can walk them on lead over to their play ground, ie pasture. This will of course depend on if Mama can get them trained to walk on lead without acting silly. Oh the future is bright with lots of exciting things coming!!

Where we are today.......

With all things Meade, we make plans and procrastinate. Then when the "due" date comes, we are booming and zooming, making things happen!

We have begun scraping area for barn, it's a start!! We had decided to make a temporary pen for the girls while barn is being built. That will eventually transition into visiting area. Where the barn will be located, the girls will be on the far end of building which will make it a small hike. Still in the planning process of barn, but there may be an area for taking the girls to the beauty parlor as well. We are still in planning stages of our farm project. Adjusting those plans as needed to accommodate the babies and visitors.

What started the owning cattle fever.....

December 2022, a small calf was abandoned by its mother from my brother in laws farm. Mother just pushed the calf under fence onto our property. We collected the calf and took it back to my brother in laws farm and together we bottle fed the little calf. My husband warned me that they had never had a bottle fed calf survive. But I loved that little booger, cooed and fed him and talked to him and willed him to survive. I named him "Sparky", because on day 2, I could see a little spark in his eyes and just knew he would make it.

He continued to grow, was slightly an outsider with the rest of the herd but eventually joined the rest of the herd. But with all things with a bull, hormones kicked in and he escaped three times in one week and had to be sold.

But I loved that cow!! I would ride the farm most of the time, just snapping pictures of all the new calves. I sill love to ride the farm and talk to the Mamas, tell them to eat good and feed their babies. My husband laughs at me sometimes but I don't care!! I just LOVE cows!!

My love for all things cow.....

You fellows won't understand or maybe you do, but women like to have a "theme" for their kitchens---apples, lemons, sunflowers, chickens, farm, or for me cows!! I wanted to be different than my mother and sister who were all about chickens, so I chose cows. These collectibleswere difficult to come by at first. But back in 1994, Mary Rhyner Nadig partnered with Enesco to make little collectible figurines called "Mary Moo Moos". Oh they were so cute, so off to collecting I went. My first one is pictured below, as well as my collection that I have on display below. I have a bunch, not sure if I even have them all on the shelves. There may be some in boxes in storage area still. And then it was salt and pepper shakers, figurines, stuffed animals. I have been partial to the black and white traditional cow. But now, oh my, these little miniature Scottish Highland cows have stolen my heart!! They are adorable and loveable. So now, lol, there is a collection of them starting as well; real live ones and figurines/collectibles. Watch out, you will be hooked on the fever as well!!
